The Thread of Love and Blood. A tale of life and death in Mutina
13 September - 20 October 2024

Civic Museum of Modena
Free Entrance

Mutina, the ancient Modena of the Roman age, 1st century AD: around the burial of a little girl a ritual is performed that unites body and soul, elements that the ancient world conceived as indissolubly linked. A true thread of love and blood, which goes all the way back to the recent archaeological discovery of the burial.

Inside an immersive room, the objects the family chose to offer the little girl for her last journey bring to light moments of life, affections, glimpses of colours capable of transcending the darkness of death and the tomb. Words, lights and scents, the latter reproduced thanks to the botanical remains found, allow visitors to live an emotional experience, suspended on the thread that separates the soul from the concreteness of things.

The project is part of the theme Psyche, proposed by festivalfilosofia, understood as the breath of life, and starting from the discovery of a Roman burial, it aims to address the theme of the relationship between soul and body, between death and life, closely connected in the classical world thanks to the rituals linked to the care of souls.
