Terramara di Montale Archaeological Park and open-air Museum

In Montale, just a few kilometers from Modena in the municipality of Castelnuovo Rangone, lie the remains of one of the most thoroughly researched terramare of all the settlements of this civilization. The archaeological digs, initiated by Carlo Boni in 1868 and taken up again by the Civic Museum of Modena one hundred years later, created the premise for an educational proposal which focuses on the dialogue between the archaeological area, with the traces of the dwelling, and the open-air museum, with life-size reproductions of a part of the village, based on the model of the open-air archaeological museums of Northern Europe.

The management of the Montale Park is entrusted to the Civic Museum of Modena, which conserves and exhibits the original artifacts; activities are regulated by a convention between the Municipality of Modena and the Municipality of Castelnuovo Rangone, which share the guidelines for cultural offerings.
